    Your Student Assembly passed the Help Haiti Now Act, the Equal Access to Public Buildings Act and the Bottle Water Awareness Act during Tuesday night’s meeting in palatial Miller Hall.

    The Help Haiti Now Act allocates $1,000 from the off-campus account for the purchase of 200 shirts designed by William and Mary Supports Haiti. The shirts will be sold for $10 each, with all proceeds going to the only degree-awarding university in Haiti, the University of Fondwa.

    Your Student Assembly passed the 2010 Road to Richmond Act during Tuesday night’s meeting, allocating $595 toward transportation costs for the annual lobbying trip.

    While the Road to Richmond is in itself a useful program intended to curb the disdain that Virginia legislators apparently have for the College of William and Mary, that the SA funds this trip has always seemed a bit off to me. Since the vast majority of students involved in this trip have ties to the SA, one could see this bill as the SA using student money to fund its own field trip.

    Your Student Assembly passed the Bike Theft Prevention Act, the DVD Act II, the Keep Swem Open During Finals Act, the Playoff Ticket Act and the Increased Transfer Housing Support Act during Tuesday night’s star-studded meeting, which was graced with the presence of imposing administrator Mark Constantine and Williamsburg City Councilman Paul Freiling ’83.

    The Bike Theft Prevention Act allocates $800 from the consolidated reserve to purchase 50 $16 bolt cutter resistant locks to be sold at the police station and other locations for $8, with all proceeds going back into the reserve.
